The story of my family is all about boxing. My father, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, reigned as the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987. His brother, Robbie Sims, KO'd an inexperienced Iran Barkley, fought an exhilarating fight against Bobby Chaz, and rose to prominence as a middleweight contender by defeating Roberto Duran in 1986. Both brothers were trained by the famous Brockton-based trainers Pat and Goody Petronelli.

As an amateur in 1995, I made the Evander Holyfield Boxing team. The team went on to win the regionals for the 3rd straight year. I was the 3x Georgia State champ and won the ABF Championship.

In 2016, I became a member of the American Boxing Association. I am dedicated to their mission of unifying the boxing industry, and the search for America's first pro national champions earned me the position of Vice President of the ABA later that year.

In 2017, I founded James Hagler Promotions, a marketing and promotional company with strong ties to the boxing and MMA world including, but not limited to, national television stations.

I recently became owner of Hands Boxing Gloves and Equipment, which is dedicated to manufacturing ring gear in the USA. Keeping it in the family, my son James Jr. is a professional fighter out of the Atlanta area.
